How do you make cleaning fun for your family? During the winter months, kids take many of their activities (and messiness) indoors. Child play and what results from it can quickly overwhelm, especially when you might already be engaged in cooking, laundry and other household chores. Many parents often feel it is easier to just clean up the mess themselves, then to embark on the daunting task of getting a child to do it. But even the youngest children can learn to help, if you create the right environment. Here is where a few guidelines might help.
Children and grow-ups alike have specific chores they like and dislike. Get your kids in on the conversation. Talk to them about what they enjoy doing and what they find to be important, and allow they to mature and share as they learn new chores. Allow kids time to learn. Kids learn new skills through repetition, which includes chores. Assign one chore to start and give them time to master it before moving on. Let them enjoy a job well done and praise them for it. Clean your own room! Kids internalize what they see at home, and will lack motivation to perform beyond their caregivers. Take a look at your own room. Is the hamper overflowing? It your bed made? Is there a mess in your closet? Respecting and completing your own chores will go a long way in teaching your kids about the importance of chores. All of us at NV Service Group hope this will help in keeping your home organized, but if you need a professional touch her and there, you can always give us a call! (800) 487-6878 |
